The Cumbrians face yet another long trip down South for a game this Saturday afternoon, this time all the way down to Dorset to take on the Cherries. Carlisle's away form is dreadful at the moment, with no win in the last 12 games on their travels, the record of the Blues at the Fitness First Stadium hardly fills you with confidence either as Carlisle have come away with nothing in six of the seven games played between the two teams in Dorset.
The most recent encounter between the sides was was two seasons ago, in December 2004, the Cherries carving out a narrow 2-1 victory in a FA Cup second round match. United's very own Derek Holmes opened the scoring for Bournemouth that day in the 48th minute, the home team then going 2-0 up after 64 minutes through Alan Connell, Holmes' header from a Wade Elliott cross helping set up that second goal. Craig Farrell got a late consolation for the Cumbrians with a minute to go but it was too little too late in front of a crowd of 5,815 spectators.
The last time the two clubs met at the Fitness First Stadium in the league was in the 2002-03 season, Bournemouth running out 3-1 winners as 5,103 spectators looked on. The home side didn't register their first goal until the 62nd minute but then hit the back of the Carlisle net three times in 24 minutes, through Jason Tindall, an Alan Connell penalty and Brian Stock, Blues stalwart Peter Murphy getting himself on the scoresheet in reply for United as the clock ticked into injury time. You can tell it was the Roddy Collins days as well as Michael Taylor, Will McDonagh, Richie Foran, Darren Kelly, Mark Summerbell and Murphy were all yellow-carded for Carlisle.
The Cherries' biggest win over the Cumbrians at home came in their Bournemouth and Boscombe days back in the 1962-63 season when they won 5-1. The Blues were only 1-0 down at the interval but the Dorset side netted four times after the break, Carlisle's only goal, in front of 8,899 spectators, coming when Les Dagger knifed in to score. The only time United haven't lost at Bournemouth was two seasons later in February 1965 when they hammered the Cherries 4-0 on the way to the Division Three title. The Cumbrians' goals that day coming courtesy of a John Evans brace, Frank Large and a Bournemouth own goal as 6,841 fans at Dean Court looked on.

Recent respective form guides
Bournemouth are not in the best of form at home, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six matches at the Fitness First Stadium. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at seven to five, although four of those in the inbox came last time out in a 4-0 home win over League Two relegation strugglers Boston United in the FA Cup.
The away form of Carlisle is pretty dire, collecting just one draw from the last six matches, that coming in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy penalty shoot-out defeat at Accrington Stanley. While the Cumbrians have only scored four goals in those last six outings on the road a mind-boggling 14 have been conceded.
Bournemouth are stuck down in the League One relegation zone, in 21st, with a return of just 16 points from their 17 games thus far, the Cherries just two points clear of bottom-placed Leyton Orient.
Carlisle lie just outside the play-off positions in the League One table, in eighth, picking up 24 from their 17 games so far, although United are almost as close to the bottom four as they are the top two.
