The Blues are ready to welcome Bournemouth on their long trip to Cumbria tomorrow, determined to stop the rot against their opponents, having lost out to their rivals on four of the previous six occasions at Brunton Park.
The previous match played between the two sides in Carlisle was on the last day of the 2002-03 season, as the visitors ran out 2-0 winners in a Division Three match. James Hayter scored both goals for the Cherries in the last four minutes, in front of 7,402 spectators, against a United side who had secured Football League safety for another season in their penultimate game with a 3-2 win at Shrewsbury courtesy of a Brian Wake hat-trick.
Matches between the clubs have been few and far between over the years, with the sides having only met six times at Brunton Park. Bournemouth have an excellent record here having won four of those meetings, their best victory coming in the 1962-63 Division Three season when they won 3-0 as 6,903 fans looked on, United eventually being relegated at the end of that campaign.
United's one and only home success over the Cherries came in another Division Three relegation campaign, this time in 1995-96 as the Blues spent just one season at that level after winning the league below in 1994-95. The thumping 4-0 win was Carlisle's best margin of victory that season, with all the goals coming in the second-half from Gary Bennett, David Currie, Rory Delap and Steve Hayward in front of 5,401 spectators.
