The Blues face a mammoth trip to Dorset this weekend, having come away from the south coast resort with little in previous meetings, managing to conjure up just two wins from the previous eight games at Dean Court.
One of those two victories was the most recent encounter between these two sides though, that coming last season in November 2006, with Carlisle inflicting a narrow 1-0 defeat on the Cherries in a League One match. A fifth minute Karl Hawley penalty being enough for United to grab their first somewhat belated away win of the campaign in front of 5,682 spectators at the Fitness First Stadium.
The Cherries's biggest win over the Cumbrians at home came in their Bournemouth and Boscombe days back in the 1962-63 season when they won 5-1. The Blues were only 1-0 down at the interval but the Dorset side netted four times after the break, Carlisle's only goal, in front of 8,899 spectators, coming when Les Dagger knifed in to score.
Apart from last year, the only time United haven't lost at Bournemouth was two seasons later in February 1965 when they hammered the Cherries 4-0 on the way to the Division Three title. The Cumbrians's goals that day coming courtesy of a John Evans brace, Frank Large and a Bournemouth own goal as 6,841 fans at Dean Court looked on.
