History of the Carlisle United v Bournemouth fixture

The Blues are ready to welcome Bournemouth on their long trip to Cumbria tomorrow, determined to stop the rot against their opponents, having lost out to their rivals on four of the previous seven occasions at Brunton Park.

The last time the two sides met in League One though last season Carlisle ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in front of 8,989 spectators. Danny Graham from the penalty spot on three minutes and Danny Livesey with a header just before the half-hour mark giving United an early 2-0 lead. Sam Vokes pulled a goal back for the Cherries on 62 minutes before Neale McDermott made sure of all three points for Carlisle with an 85th minute strike.

Matches between the clubs have been few and far between over the years, with the sides having only met seven times at Brunton Park. The Cherries have an excellent record here having won four of those meetings, their best victory coming in the 1962-63 Division Three season, as Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic, when they won 3-0 as 6,903 fans looked on, United eventually being relegated at the end of that campaign.

Carlisle's only other home success over the Cherries prior to last season came in another Division Three relegation campaign, this time in 1995-96 as the Blues spent just one season at that level after winning the league below in 1994-95. The thumping 4-0 win was United's best margin of victory that season, with all the goals coming in the second-half from Gary Bennett, David Currie, Rory Delap and Steve Hayward in front of 5,401 spectators.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have only performed averagely at home recently, winning three and losing two of their last six matches at Brunton Park. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at seven to six.

Bournemouth have an average recent record on the road, winning their last two games on the road at Walsall and Swansea, but losing their previous four away matches prior to that. While the Cherries have scored seven goals in that run of games ten have hit the back of the wrong net.

Carlisle are just outside the automatic promotion places, in fourth, having taken 79 points from 45 games. Bournemouth, taking into account their ten penalty for going into administration, are stuck down in the relegation zone of League One, in 21st, with a return of 47 points from their 45 games thus far.
