Carlisle visit the Valley tomorrow, looking to break their away duck against the Addicks. United having lost twelve and drawn six of the 18 games played between the two sides in south-east London.
Last season in League One the Blues went down 1-0 at the Valley in early April 2010 in front of 17,229 fans. Sam Sodje's header shortly before half-time seeing the Addicks take all three points in a tightly contested match.
The last time before that that the teams met each other at the Valley was in mid-September 2006 in the second round of the Carling Cup. United going down narrowly 1-0 again to their then Premiership opponents as Marcus Bent scored the only goal of the game for the Addicks in the 57th minute as just 8,190 spectators looked on.
As for league action, the last time Carlisle played away to Charlton before last season came in the old Division Two in the 1985-86 campaign, the return fixture at Brunton Park that season of course being the infamous Jim Tolmie match. The game in London was played at Selhurst Park though in Charlton's temporary spell away from the Valley. The Addicks winning 3-0 with only 3,059 fans in attendance thanks to goals from former Blue John Pearson, George Shipley and John Humphrey.
Charlton may have defeated Carlisle 12 times out of 18 at home but they have never beaten the Blues by a bigger margin than three goals. As for United, the most goals they have ever scored away to the Addicks in their six draws is two on one occasion, although the Cumbrians have also found the net twice in two of their defeats.

FootyMad's prediction ...
This is a game in which both sides are showing indifferent form, so the Madmen are expecting the Cumbrians to come away from it with a creditable draw...... No-score draw
