History of the Cheltenham Town v Carlisle United fixture

The Blues face a trip to Gloucestershire this weekend, with the intention of improving a poor record there. United having come away with nothing in five of the six games between the two sides at the home of the Robins.

The most recent encounter was last season as the home side carved out a 1-0 victory in a FA Cup first round match, the only goal of the game being scored by Northern Ireland international Grant McCann. The Cumbrians did win on their league visit to Whaddon Road in the same campaign though, taking all three points courtesy of a 3-2 win with goals from Karl Hawley (2) and Zigor Aranalde as just 3,282 spectators looked on.

With the Robins only coming into the Football League in August 1999 games between the two sides have been limited over the years. That one 3-2 win for Carlisle last season is their only success in six visits to Gloucestershire, while the Robins have won two matches by a two goal margin and three by a one goal margin.
