History of the Cheltenham Town v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle face a trip to Gloucestershire tomorrow afternoon, and have come away with little in previous meetings, having managed to conjure up just two wins, alongside six defeats from their eight games over the years at Whaddon Road.

Last season in League One United lost 1-0 at Cheltenham on a Friday evening in January 2008. Steven Gillespie scoring the only goal of the game for the Robins after just 20 minutes in front of 4,221 spectators.

Carlisle's two wins at Whaddon Road have both been by a one-goal margin, the first in February 2007, with Carlisle inflicting a narrow 1-0 defeat on the Robins in a League One match. The single strike coming early from Joe Garner on 15 minutes as 3,831 fans looked on. While the second was an entertaining 3-2 win in the 2005-06 League Two title-winning campaign, Karl Hawley (2) and Zigor Aranalde scoring the goals that day in front of only 3,282 spectators.

Meanwhile, since they came into the league in 1999, the Robins have won two matches by a two goal margin and four by a one goal margin against the Blues. None of the eight games contested between the two sides at Whaddon Road having ended in a draw.

Recent respective form guides

Cheltenham have performed reasonably at home of late, winning three, drawing one and losing two of their last six matches at Whaddon Road. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period of low scoring games at five to three.

Carlisle meanwhile have a pretty poor recent record on the road, seeing them win just one and draw two of their last six matches away from Brunton Park. While the Cumbrians have notched only five goals, a disappointing nine have hit the back of the wrong net.

Cheltenham are stuck down in the relegation zone of League One, in 23rd, with a return of just 38 points from their 43 games played thus far. Carlisle are also in the bottom four of the table, in 21st, having gained just 46 points from their 44 games contested to date.
