The Blues travel to Kent this weekend needing to turn round their fortunes at the Priestfield Stadium. United hoping to improve on a record which has seen them lose eleven and win only four of the 21 games played in Gillingham.
Last season in League One Carlisle's poor form in Kent continued as they were defeated 2-0 by the Gills in front of 5,973 spectators. Mark Bentley after eight minutes and Dave Mulligan with one minute to go in the game being the goalscorers for the home side.
Gillingham's biggest victory at home over the Blues was in the 1961-62 campaign when they trounced United 4-1 in the old Fourth Division, George Walker bagging the solitary goal for the Cumbrians in front of 5,483 spectators.
Meanwhile all Carlisle's four wins at the Priestfield Stadium have come by a narrow one goal margin, one of those victories being one of only two wins on the road in United's disastrous 1991-92 season which saw them finish bottom of the Football League, Michael Holmes and Andy Watson scoring the United goals that day in a 2-1 win that saw a paltry crowd of only 2,179 fans watching on.
Carlisle only being saved from relegation into the then Vauxhall Conference at the end of that dire campaign as the league was supposedly expanding to 94 clubs, Aldershot stumping that idea though as they went out of business and resigned from the league on the 25th of March 1992.

Recent respective form guides
Gillingham have collected two wins and three draws from their last six home matches. They have been a dull run of games though with only three goals scored and just four conceded.
The away form of Carlisle however, is much more impressive, with three victories and just one loss from the last six outings on the road. The run of games having constituted a decent return of eight goals for the Cumbrians with only three against.
Gillingham are stuck down in the relegation zone of League One with a return of just 39 points from their 39 games contested thus far. Carlisle meanwhile are holding the final automatic promotion place in the table, and have accumulated 74 points from the 38 games they have played so far.

FootyMad's prediction ...
The Cumbrians have been performing with great credit on their travels, and the Madmen see no reason why they should not return from the Priestfield Stadium with an easy victory. Away win
