History of the Huddersfield Town v Carlisle United fixture

The Blues face a trip to West Yorkshire needing to turn around their fortunes in Huddersfield. Carlisle hoping to improve on a record which has seen them taste defeat ten times, draw seven and win just two of the 19 games played.

One of those victories came last season though when United came away from the Galpharm Stadium with all three points thanks to an excellent 2-0 final scoreline. The Carlisle goals, in front of 10,022 spectators (including 1,181 United fans), both coming in the first-half through Danny Livesey on 34 minutes and Joe Garner sixty seconds before the interval.

The only other time the Blues have left Huddersfield with a win was in the 1972-73 FA Cup. A first-half own goal by the Terriers settling a third round replay after the two teams had earlier drawn 2-2 at Brunton Park. Carlisle making it to the last sixteen that season before they lost out 2-1 at home at Arsenal in front of a bumper attendance of 24,000.

Games between the sides have been relatively low scoring affairs over the years, although Huddersfield twice defeated United by a three-goal margin at their old Leeds Road ground. The most memorable of those two matches from a Carlisle perspective no doubt being the 4-1 defeat in the first leg of the Autoglass Trophy Northern Area Final in March 1994.

Peter Jackson, Darren Bullock, Phil Starbuck and Iain Dunn scoring the goals for a Terriers side that also contained a 21-year old Chris Billy. The solitary Carlisle goal coming from a Simon Davey penalty in the first-half as 10,552 spectators looked on. Some of those fans watching on from the away end in disbelief after a chicken, smuggled in by a Blues fan, was released into the air early on in the evening.

Recent respective form guides

Huddersfield have collected one win and three draws from their last six home games played. The Terriers scoring seven goals in those games at the Galpharm Stadium, but also conceding an alarming eight.

Carlisle's away form is the very definition of average with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six games on the road. The Cumbrians, exactly the same as Huddersfield, having notched seven goals in these matches, but let in eight.

Huddersfield's 60 points gained from their 42 games played sees them lie inside the top half of the League One table, in tenth place. Carlisle meanwhile are hovering perilously just above the relegation zone, in 19th spot, with just 45 points earned from 42 matches contested.
