History of the Leicester City v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle travel to the Walkers Stadium tomorrow afternoon, hoping to improve on an average previous return from this fixture. Of the five games played United have won one, drawn two and lost two. That being a lot better than their dreadful home record over the years against City which reads, played six, drawn one, lost five.

The last time the two sides met in Leicester was at Filbert Street in the fourth round of the FA Cup in late January 1985, Carlisle losing 1-0 that day in front of 14,635 spectators. Two seasons before that, in the old second division in September 1982, the Cumbrians were crushed 6-0 as just 8,440 fans looked on.

Those are United's two defeats away to Leicester while their one victory came way back in the 1969-70 campaign, again in the old second division. The Carlisle goals both scored that day by Hughie McIlmoyle past Peter Shilton in front of 24,434 spectators, while the City goal was bagged by Welsh international full-back Peter Rodrigues.
