History of the Carlisle United v Leyton Orient fixture

United welcome the East Londoners to Cumbria tomorrow, with high hopes of improving on their excellent record against the opposition, having chalked up an impressive 15 wins out of 20 previous matches on home turf.

Last season in League One United defeated the O's 1-0 at Brunton Park in mid-December 2007. Joe Garner scoring the only goal of the game in the 50th minute as he fired home from a Marc Bridge-Wilkinson corner in front of 6,843 spectators.

With Geraint Williams now in charge at the Matchroom Stadium we have to go back to the boss before to find a win for Orient at Brunton Park. Their last one came in 2005-06 when they won 3-2 under ex-manager Martin Ling, but Ling's first game as O's boss was the 1-0 home win over United in late September 2003, in one of a wretched run of 12 league defeats on the bounce for a Conference-bound Carlisle side.

Jabo Ibehre once more scoring against the Blues in the 66th minute to take all three points back down to London. Incidentally all Orient's four victories at Brunton Park have all been by a narrow one goal margin. Their last win before 2003 coming as far back as the 1987-88 campaign in the old Division Four.

All Cumbrians will prefer to remember the 6-1 hammering of Orient in January 2002 though, a day when United were 4-0 up after just 17 minutes and 5-0 to the good at half-time, veteran striker Ian Stevens bagging a hat-trick - with Steve Soley, Richie Foran and Brendan McGill the other goalscorers, in front of a paltry crowd in the darkest Michael Knighton days of just 2,955 spectators at an echoey Brunton Park.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have not been in the best of form at home recently, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six matches at Brunton Park. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at nine to eight.

Leyton Orient have had an average recent record on the road as of late, picking up two good wins and drawing one, but losing three from their last six games away from the Matchroom Stadium. While the O's have only scored five goals in those matches, eight have hit the back of the wrong net.

Carlisle find themselves struggling down in 16th position in the league having picked up 41 points from their 35 matches played so far. Leyton Orient meanwhile are even worse off as they hover perilously just above the League One relegation zone, in 20th, with 36 points from their 35 games contested to date.
