History of the Carlisle United v Millwall fixture

The Blues welcome the Lions of South London to Cumbria tomorrow looking to continue on an impressive record at home. United being clearly on top between the two, having won 11 and lost only four of the 19 games at Brunton Park.

The last time the two sides met in Carlisle was back in early March 1998, the Cumbrians carving out a narrow 1-0 victory in a League Division Two match, that being the last of five consecutive wins in a row for the Blues in games at home to Millwall. Allan Smart scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute for United that day in front of a Brunton Park crowd of 5,217 spectators, the Blues eventually being relegated from the third tier for the second season out of three as the Lions escaped the drop by five points.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle are in decent form at home, having won four and drawn two of their last six games at Brunton Park, these high-scoring games yielding a total of 12 goals for the Cumbrians, with just four goals against.

In complete contrast to United, Millwall are having a torrid time on their travels, chalking up just one victory, with five defeats, from the last six games away from the New Den, although that sole win did come last time out at Rotherham, the Lions hitting seven goals in those matches while conceding a mammoth 15.

Carlisle's total of 20 points from their 12 games sees them in sixth and occupying the last promotion play-off place in the League One table, the Blues being five points off first-placed Nottingham Forest.

Millwall are stuck down in the relegation zone in League One with a return of just nine points from their 12 games so far, the Lions sitting in third bottom three points away from safety.
