The Cumbrians face a trip down the M6 tomorrow, needing to turn around their fortunes against the Latics. The Cumbrians hoping to improve upon a record which has seen them lose 18 and win only 7 of the 31 games played in Oldham, two of those matches won being on penalties and the golden goal rule as well in recent LDV Trophy ties.
The latest of those encounters being less than a year ago, in October 2005, where the two sides shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 draw, United eventually winning the first round tie 6-5 on penalties after extra-time, Karl Hawley scoring the Blues goal in the fifth minute and Andy Liddell slotting home a 78th minute penalty for the Latics.
The two clubs last locked horns in the Football League in the third tier of the pyramid back in the 1997-98 season, a campaign that eventaully saw the Blues relegated under the "stewardship" of reviled manager and owner Michael Knighton. United taking an early ninth minute lead through Graham Anthony that day before three goals in six minutes spread over the half-time break from Paul Rickers, Stuart Barlow and Lee Duxbury meant the home side were able to coast to a 3-1 victory in front of 4,449 spectators inside Boundary Park.

Recent respective form guides
Oldham's poor home run has seen them win just one and draw two of their last six games at Boundary Park, that single victory coming courtesy of a 1-0 defeat of promotion favourites Swansea. While the Latics have scored four in those matches, a worringly large eight have been leaked at the other end.
Carlisle's away form is average at best on the road of late, losing only one of the last six, but only winning one as well as four games have ended in draws. The Cumbrians have a narrow positive goal difference over these games though, with five goals for and four against.
Oldham are in the relegation zone following today's matches in League One, with three points from four matches, the Latics having won one game 1-0 and lost the other three 1-0 as well.
Carlisle are in tenth this evening on seven points, two points behind fellow League Two promotees Cheltenham, who occupy sixth place and the final promotion play-off spot. The Blues having won two, drawn one and lost one so far, knowing that a victory tomorrow would shoot them up to third or fourth in the table.
