History of the Carlisle United v Oldham Athletic fixture

Carlisle welcome Oldham to Cumbria tomorrow looking to continue an impressive record against the Latics at Brunton Park. The Blues well on top, winning 21, drawing nine and losing only three of the 33 games played between the sides.

Earlier this season Carlisle defeated Oldham 1-0 at home in the first round of the Carling Cup. Scott Dobie, just as the game looked to be heading for extra-time, scoring the only goal of the tie in the 89th minute in front of just 2,509 spectators at Brunton Park.

Last time out in the league in Cumbria, the Latics and the Blues drew 1-1 almost a year ago today. Carlisle taking the lead through a Michael Bridges penalty just before the break, with Oldham's Daniel Jones being sent off for a professional foul in the process. Being down to ten men not ending the Latics hopes on the day though as they grabbed a point a minute from time when Neal Eardley equalised with a long range free-kick.

United have beaten the Latics by a three-goal margin at Brunton Park five times, the most recent of those victories though was well over 40 years ago in the 1960-61 season, a campaign served in the old Division Four. The game came on the last day of the season with Carlisle winning 3-0 thanks to goals from George Walker, Barry Brayton and George Whitelaw in front of an attendance of 4,292 people.

Oldham may have only won at the home of the Cumbrians three times but one of those victories was a thumping 5-2 win, again on the last day of the season, but this time in Division Two in the 1984-85 campaign. The score was 1-1 at half-time only for the Blues to capitulate after the break and concede four goals while only scoring one in reply, Paul Gorman and Don O'Riordan being the Cumbrians goalscorers on the day as a paltry crowd of just 2,470 spectators looked on.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle are showing reasonable home form of late, having won four and lost two from their last six matches played at Brunton Park. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period at ten to eight.

Oldham meanwhile aren't having the best time on the road recently, the Latics having won just one and drawn two of their last six games away from Boundary Park. They have also been low scoring matches for Oldham with them conceding six goals and scoring just two.

Carlisle's 54 points picked up from their 42 games played sees them lie just inside the top half of the table, in 12th position. Oldham meanwhile find themselves struggling down in 17th place in League One having earned 47 points from their 41 matches contested to date.
