Footymad preview History of the Peterborough United v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle pack their bags to visit Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon, hoping to improve on a record of four wins, four draws and seven defeats in the 15 games against their opponents at London Road over the years. The most recent encounter between these two sides came in February 2009, the Posh carving out a narrow 1-0 victory in a League One match thanks to a 69th minute strike from Aaron McLean as 5,103 fans looked on.

Before that, the last time the sides met in Peterborough the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw. That game coming in Carlisle's League Two championship winning season of 2005-06 in front of just 3,689 spectators, Danny Crow giving the Posh a 56th minute lead before Michael Bridges ensured that honours finished even on that December afternoon with a close range header ten minutes from time.

United's best win at London Road was a 4-1 success in the 1988-89 campaign in the old Division Four, the Carlisle goals that day as 2,537 fans looked on coming from Brent Hetherington (2), John Halpin and a rare Mike Graham strike. Peterborough meanwhile have thumped the Blues twice at home by a five-goal margin over the years, the first a 5-0 win in the old Division Four in 1960-61 and the latter a 6-1 victory in what is now League One in 1995-96.
