History of the Carlisle United v Plymouth Argyle fixture
Carlisle play host to Plymouth at Brunton Park on Tuesday evening, looking to continue an impressive home record against the Pilgrims. The Cumbrians are clearly on top, having won eight, drawn five and lost only two of the 15 games played between the sides over the years.
The last time the two teams met in Cumbria was back in April 2002 as the visitors picked up one of those two rare wins in a League Division Three (fourth tier) match. Argyle getting all three points courtesy of a 2-0 win thanks to a goal in either half from Marino Keith on 20 minutes and then Paul Wootton after 53 minutes in front of only 3,080 fans inside Brunton Park. Carlisle's only other defeat at home to Plymouth coming the first time the two sides played each other, in October 1965, the Pilgrims winning 3-1 as 10,231 spectators looked on, with the United goal being scored by Joe Livingstone.
Obviously, THAT 2-1 win in May 1999 was the most famous game at Brunton Park between the two teams, but with United never having beaten Plymouth by more than two goals at home, the largest amount of goals Carlisle have scored against Argyle came less than four months later at the end of August the following season. The goals for the Blues that Bank Holiday Monday afternoon in a 4-2 victory scored by Richard Tracey (2), Tommy Black and Paul Baker, with Ian Stonebridge (2) replying for the visitors in front of just 2,863 fans.

Recent respective form guides
Carlisle are not in the best of form at home of late, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six matches at Brunton Park. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period, at ten to eight. The away form of Plymouth is pretty dire however, chalking up just one victory, with five defeats, from their last six games on the road. While the Pilgrims have scored only four goals in those matches, a hefty 13 have hit the back of the wrong net.
Carlisle's 48 points earned from 35 games sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in tenth position. Plymouth meanwhile find themselves stuck right at the bottom of the division, with their 36 games yielding 42 points, 10 of those having been chopped off recently though with Argyle's notice of intention to appoint an administrator leaving them with just 32 points, whereas their actual total on the pitch would see them sitting in 18th place in the League One table.
