Carlisle welcome Rochdale to Cumbria on Tuesday evening looking to improve on a good record at home to the Spotland outfit. United winning 29, drawing 9 and losing 13 of the 51 games played between the two sides at Brunton Park over the years.
The last time the teams met in Cumbria was in United's League Two championship winning season of 2005-06. Carlisle winning 2-1 on New Year's Eve in front of 6,897 fans despite Rochdale taking the lead in only the second minute through Blair Sturrock. Two goals in the last half an hour of the game from Danny Livesey and Michael Bridges though ensuring that the three points went the way of the Blues.
United have seven times scored five goals or more at home to Rochdale, and have even hit the seven goal mark on three occasions. The best of those wins being a 7-0 victory in 1953-54 in the old Third Division North. The Carlisle goalscorers that August afternoon, as 8,378 spectators looked on, being Jimmy Wham Whitehouse (2), Ian Atkinson (2), Bobby Johnston, Jimmy Drury and Alan Ashman.
Rochdale meanwhile have never won by more than a two goal margin at Brunton Park, which they have done three times with one of them being a 3-1 FA Cup extra-time win in November 1959. Their last victory in Carlisle actually being a 2-0 win in the 2002-03 season at fourth tier level when Clive Platt and former Blues manager Paul Simpson hit the back of the United net in the first-half in front of 4,501 fans.
