Carlisle travel to take on Southampton tomorrow afternoon, hoping to improve on an average previous return from this fixture. Of the only five games played, United winning one, drawing two and losing two.
The last time the two teams met in Southampton was back in October 1983 at a time when the second round of the League Cup was played over two legs. United going out of the competition despite winning the opener at home 2-0 thanks to a Malcolm Poskett brace in front of 8,570 spectators, the Blues though then going on to lose the second leg at the Dell 3-0 after extra-time three weeks later.
That scoreline is Southampton's biggest of their two wins at home to Carlisle while United's only win away to the Saints came at the Dell on the opening day of the 1976-77 season in the old Division Two. Billy Raffery scoring both goals for the Cumbrians that Saturday afternoon as 18,695 fans looked on.

Recent respective form guides
Southampton have lost just once in their last six home games, while winning four and drawing the other one. These games have seen the Saints score just seven goals, though on the other side of the coin they have only conceded four.
In contrast to Southampton, Carlisle are having a difficult time on their travels, seeing them win just one, draw two and lose three of their last six games away from Brunton Park, although the solitary victory did come last time out in a 2-1 win at Brighton. While the Cumbrians have scored only five goals in those six matches, a hefty ten have hit the back of the wrong net.
With their ten point deduction Southampton lie just outside the play-off positions in League One, their 67 points picked up from 43 games seeing them currently sitting in eighth place in the table. Carlisle meanwhile find themselves just below half-way in the division, in 13th, showing a record of 54 points from their 43 games played so far.
