Carlisle travel to take on Southampton tomorrow afternoon, hoping to improve on an average previous return from this fixture. Of the only six games played, United winning one, drawing two and losing three.
Last season at St Mary's the Blues lost 3-2 in late April, Michail Antonio putting the Saints 1-0 up as we ticked into first-half injury time only for Ian Harte to then equalise for Carlisle three minutes into that period of added time as 18,908 fans looked on.
The goals then kept coming as straight after the restart Rickie Lambert made it 2-1 to the home side before Antonio then grabbed his second goal of the match in the 52nd minute to put Southampton 3-1 up. Gary Madine's close range finish as deep as the fourth minute of second-half injury time therefore proving to be nothing more than a consolation goal for United.
Before that the previous time the two teams met in Southampton was at the Dell back in October 1983 at a time when the second round of the League Cup was played over two legs. United going out of the competition despite winning the opener at home 2-0 thanks to a Malcolm Poskett brace in front of 8,570 spectators, the Blues though then going on to lose the second leg at the Dell 3-0 after extra-time three weeks later.
That scoreline is Southampton's biggest of their three wins at home to Carlisle while United's only win away to the Saints came at the Dell on the opening day of the 1976-77 season in the old Division Two. Billy Raffery scoring both goals for the Cumbrians in a 2-1 victory that Saturday afternoon as 18,695 fans looked on.

Recent respective form guides
Southampton have only performed averagely at home recently, winning three, drawing one and losing two of their last six matches at St Mary's. A total of eleven goals have been scored by the Saints in those games, with five conceded.
The away form of Carlisle on the other hand has been pretty dire of late, the Blues chalking up just one victory, with five defeats, from their last six games on the road. The Cumbrians have conceded ten goals in these games, while only netting three in reply.
Southampton are sitting in the play-off places at the moment, in fourth, having taken 45 points from their 27 games contested to date. Carlisle meanwhile see themselves just below half-way in the Npower League One table, in 14th, showing a record of 35 points picked up from their 26 games played so far.
