Carlisle face a mammoth trip to South Wales tonight, hoping to improve upon an average previous return from this fixture. Of the 12 games played, United have recorded three wins while City have come away with four victories.
The most recent encounter between the two sides at the Liberty Stadium was less than a year ago, in December 2006, with Swansea annihilating an injury-ravaged Blues side 5-0 in a League One match in front of 12,550 spectators. Rory Fallon with two, Dennis Lawrence, Andy Robinson and Darren Pratley scoring the goals for City as Carlisle couldn't even fill the substitutes bench such were their injury problems.
Somewhat unsurprisingly that is Swansea's biggest win at home to the Cumbrians over the years. All three Carlisle wins in South Wales came at the old Vetch field in single goal victories, 2-1, 2-1 and 1-0. Perhaps the most memorable of those victories being the 1-0 success in the 1996-97 Division Three season when Richard Prokas scored the winning goal for the Blues in the last minute of the match.

Recent respective form guides
Swansea have managed to pick up just two wins from their last six home games while losing three, although one of those did come in a Carling Cup defeat against Premier League Reading. The Swans have scored nine goals in these games but have also conceded an alarming eleven - six of which came in a thumping 6-3 defeat at home to Blackpool on the final day of last season.
The away form of Carlisle however, is much more impressive, tasting just one defeat in their last six and picking up four good wins. Just seven goals have scored in these games, though to be fair only a measly four have been let in at the wrong end.
Swansea see themselves just below half-way in the League One table showing a, disappointing by their standard, record of only four points from their four games played so far, Carlisle meanwhile are just outside the automatic promotion places in third, having taken ten points from five games.
