History of the Carlisle United v Swansea City fixture

The Blues welcome the Swans to Cumbria tomorrow night looking to improve on their record of six wins, four defeats and one draw in their 11 matches played at Brunton Park against the Welshmen.

Last season in League One Swansea knocked the Cumbrians out of the play-off race and left themselves firmly in it with a 2-1 win at Brunton Park on the second last day of the season. Lee Trundle managed to stay on his feet long enough to open the scoring as early as the first minute for City before Johann Smith equalised for United four minutes into the second-half. Darrly Duffy then firing home the Swans winner deep into added time as 10,578 spectators looked on.

Carlisle's best victory over the Swans was in the 1996-97 Division Three (fourth tier) promotion season. The Cumbrians thumping City 4-1 at Brunton Park thanks to goals from Steve Hayward, Paul Conway, Warren Aspinall and Owen Archdeacon as 5,114 spectators looked on. Meanwhile all Swansea's four wins in Cumbria have been by a slender one-goal margin.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have an excellent recent home record, winning five and losing just one of the last six games, that 2-0 against Nottingham Forest. A total of nine goals have been scored by the Cumbrians in those games with only four conceded.

Swansea are equally impressive on the road though, tasting just one defeat in their last six matches away from the Liberty Stadium and picking up four good wins. These high-scoring games have constituted a decent return of ten goals for the Swans and eight against.

The two sides couldn't be any closer in the table with 41 games played each, Swansea, at the top of the table, so far gaining 82 points from their matches contested, while United, in second place, have accumulated 78 points to date.
