History of the Carlisle United v Yeovil Town fixture

The Blues welcome the Glovers to Cumbria tomorrow hoping to claim all three points in only the third game ever contested between the two sides at Brunton Park, the visitors having only been in the Football League since 2003-04.

Last season in League One a promotion chasing Yeovil side hammered Carlisle 4-1 in this fixture in front of 7,112 spectators. That despite things looking rosy for United as they led 1-0 at the break, thanks to a Joe Garner strike in the 43rd minute, and the Glovers had already had to use all their three substitutes due to injury.

In the classic game of two halves though, Yeovil coasted to victory after the interval as Leon Best, on loan from Southampton at the time put in a stellar performance for the visitors. Best scoring twice himself on 72 and 90 minutes having already set up Wayne Gray for a 49th minute leveller. Chris Cohen then putting the icing on the cake for the Glovers when he netted deep into injury time to make the final scoreline 4-1.

The only other match between the two sides at Brunton Park being a 2-0 win for Carlisle in Yeovil's first, and, what at the time was United's last, season in the Football League, that being the 2003-04 campaign. The Blues, with 5,455 fans looking on, claiming victory thanks to a goal either side of the break from Paul Simpson and Craig Farrell respectively.

Recent respective form guides

Carlisle have an excellent home record, winning five and losing just one of the last six games, that single defeat against Nottingam Forest on Tuesday night snapping a 14 match run of home league wins. In those last six games at Brunton Park United have scored a total of nine goals and conceded four.

Yeovil meanwhile are having a torrid time on their travels lately, managing a paltry two draws from their last six matches away from Huish Park. The Glovers have conceded a bumper 11 goals in these games while only bagging two goals themselves.

Carlisle are holding the final automatic promotion place in League One, and have accumulated 75 points from the 40 games they have played so far. Yeovil however see themselves just below half-way in the table, in 15th, showing a record of 49 points from their 41 games contested to date.
