Baldy: Gretna loan switch
The United exodus to Gretna gained momentum today as winger Ryan Baldacchino completed a three-month loan move to the Raydale Park outfit.

Manager Rowan Alexander also has his eyes firmly fixed on striker Brian Wake, who has been unable to claim a starting place so far this season. Defender Lee Andrews is believed to have turned down a loan move to the Scottish borders club.

But a move to Brunton Park for former Scotland star Andy McLaren is still in the balance. McLaren appeared to have accepted the Cumbrians offer this morning but the deal had still not been done this afternoon. McLaren, 29, is available on a free transfer from his club Hibs.

A deal to bring Manchester United starlet Daniel Nardiello to the club is dependent on the 21-year-old deciding to drop down to the Third Division. Members of his family were keen for him to tie up a loan move to a First Division club.

Under-fire boss Roddy Collins said he had been forced to shake up the squad due to panicking amongst supporters.

"The players who are going are not leaving for any other reason than I have to raise cash. I was building for the long term but some people are panicking so I'll give them short-term measures," he said.

Baldacchino's move was complicated by the need to get international clearance. With a three-month deal agreed, Baldacchino would be able to return to Carlisle before the January 31 deadline for international transfers.

He was very hopeful that McLaren would make the switch and enthused about the players' abilities.

"Andy McLaren would be the best player the club has seen in years. I've had him down here and I've been to Glasgow. I expect a deal to be done soon and I also have my eye on another striker."
