Foran: New ban
Paul Simpson has signed his second new player of the week in Dundee's Tom Cowan while Richie Foran has been handed an extra two-game ban.

Cowan joins Kevin Gray in United's reshaped squad and could make his debut at home to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. The 34-year-old has vast experience having played for Clyde, Rangers, Sheffield United, Burnley, Cambridge, York and Dundee during a 15-year career. He usually plays in midfield but can also fill in at the back.

Simpson is still hoping another signing can be made before Saturday. Last week he put nine players on the transfer list. Of those Brian Wake has signed for Gretna and youngster David Lynn has gone on loan to Workington, who are expected to sign him permanently.

Foran received the news today that an FA committee have slapped a two-game ban on him for the incident at Hull in October when he was shown a second yellow card after being substituted. But the card and the subsequent red were both chalked off because the rules say a player can't be booked after he has left the field of play. However the FA decided Foran's conduct was worthy of a suspension. He made comments to the referee just after leaving the field towards the end of United's 2-1 defeat at the KC Stadium.

The fiery Irishman must now decide whether to have a routine operation on his troublesome ankle or play through the pain. He appeared in yesterday's 2-1 reserves defeat at home to Stockport and will now have to see if his ankle is Ok for Saturday. He has completed his first suspension which ran to four games. Foran may choose to have the operation during his next ban which will see him sit out the games at home to Torquay on the weekend before Christmas and away to Bury on Boxing Day.
