Depleted United look for Cup joy

Farrell: Ineligible
The Cumbrians will take a depleted squad with them to Glanford Park this afternoon for the FA Cup Second Round clash with Scunthorpe United.

Midfielders Leon Osman and Mark Hudson are unavailable, because Everton don't want Osman to play in the competition and Hudson has already appeared in an earlier round for Chesterfield. Will McDonagh is suspended and Des Byrne out through injury while Craig Farrell, who completed his move from Leeds yesterday on a three-year contract did not sign the forms in time to be eligible to appear.

So Roddy Collins will once again have to shuffle his pack for the game against Brian Laws's Ironmen. On-loan Paul Robinson has been cleared to play by Wimbledon and so could start up front alongside Richie Foran. Michael Taylor is also in the squad having been given the nod by his club Blackburn Rovers. He will be competing for a spot alongside Darren Kelly in central defence. Collins may switch in-form Peter Murphy to midfield to plug some of the holes left by the ineligibility of Osman and Hudson. Wingers Ryan Baldacchino and Brendan McGill are also in line for starting spots.

Strikers Brian Wake and Marc Nixon are in the squad and could be on the bench as could midfielder Michael Jack.

Scunthorpe will be looking to strikers Steve Torpey and Martin Carruthers to shoot them into the Third Round. The Iron lost 2-1 at Bournemouth last week to slip out of the play-off places, but their deadly duo have notched 23 goals between them this season. Experienced midfielder Peter Beagrie is out with a knee injury. Wayne Graves returns in midfield after suspension.

Galloway contract cancelled

Mick Galloway has left Brunton Park after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

He has joined Scottish Third Division newcomers Gretna as a trialist and will be looking for a permanent move.
