Gray: Adds experience
Tranmere's skipper Kevin Gray will not be the only signing for United this week.

That was the message from boss Paul Simpson today as he hopes to land up to three more players in time for Saturday's home game with Doncaster Rovers.

31-year-old Gray has massive experience, having made his debut back in 1990 for Mansfield Town. He left for Huddersfield in 1994, where he spent eight years and hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. His club were ordered to pay £900,000 damages at Leeds Crown Court to the Bradford City player Gordon Watson who had his leg broken in two places by a wild Gray tackle in a February 1997 clash. In 2002 he left the McAlpine Stadium to join Tranmere Rovers but lost his place after the recent appointment of Brian Little.

"He is a strong character and will be a big asset," said a delighted Simpson. "I think we need some experience in the side and Kevin provides that. He has been at Mansfield and Huddersfield and has most recently been at Tranmere, but has not really featured since Brian Little took over."

Club owner John Courtenay revealed yesterday that United were trying to secure the signatures of two Scottish Premier League defenders, who have not been named.

Simpson was confident more players would be arriving either this week or next week.

"There is one deal we hope to complete tomorrow and there are two others I'm waiting on but they may not go through before the weekend. I want people to realise that things cannot happen overnight and even the Kevin Gray deal had been ongoing for about two weeks. It takes time to agree terms with players and clubs but I'm pleased I've got this signing sorted out," he said.
