Green: Booted out
United midfield ace Stuart Green has been BOOTED out of Brunton Park just 24 hours before the vital away trip to Torquay.

The shock news came after Green had been accused by his manager Roddy Collins of negotiating his recall to Hull City with Tigers boss Peter Taylor. The revelation that the club's midfield star was ready to jump ship in the middle of a relegation battle will anger many fans. Green had missed the 6-1 defeat at Wrexham with what was described as an illness. Green was sitting on the team bus in the Brunton Park car park ready to head off to Devon when Collins confronted him and threw him off in the middle of a heated argument.

Now he looks set to return to Hull under a cloud barely two months after making the loan switch to Cumbria that it was hoped would be the precursor to a record-breaking £150,000 transfer. He had left Humberside in similar circumstances after a much-publicised bust-up with Taylor. He joined the Humbersiders from Newcastle for £150,000 on Boxing Day.

The Cumbrians travelled down to Torquay yesterday for a game they need to win to guarantee staying clear of the bottom two as they go into the final week of the campaign. Tuesday night's visit to Shrewsbury looks like being the relegation decider although both clubs could end up going down. They finish with a testing home match against AFC Bournemouth on May 3.

Craig Farrell provided Carlisle with a boost when he was declared fit for the trip after missing the Wrexham game due to what the manager described as a "mental" problem. Defenders Peter Murphy and Mark Birch have also been passed fit, although both Lee Andrews and Michael Jack are included in the squad. Darren Kelly and Paul Raven will be missing due to suspension and injury respectively.

Four clubs are currently in big relegation trouble, United, Shrewsbury, Swansea and Exeter. Exeter are at York tomorrow, Swansea travel to Rochdale and the Shrews, who have slumped to the bottom of the table after taking just 4 points out of a possible 36, are away to second-top Hartlepool United.
