Manager Keith Curle has cooled speculation that heavyweight striker Adebayo Akinfenwa could be on his way to Carlisle United.
But the
understands that another familiar face – ex-Carlisle loanee Jordan Cook – is among the names under consideration at Brunton Park.Boss Curle has made no secret of the fact he wants to land another frontman to compete with Jabo Ibehre, Charlie Wyke and Shaun Miller.
Walsall’s Cook, who had a successful loan spell at Carlisle in 2012, looks set to leave the League One club with his contract about to expire.
The Blues are believed to be among the clubs monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation.
But there seems little prospect of a move for Akinfenwa.
Bookies made the Blues 6/4 favourites to land the burly frontman, who was released by Wimbledon last month.
Curle said he is aware of the 34-year-old’s ability but denied making any approach to the man nicknamed the Beast.
“I’d never say never, and I’m aware he’s available, but that’s as far as it’s gone with me,” Curle told the
.“I’ve got the released list from every club, and he [Akinfenwa] is not someone I’ve actively spoken to, likewise his representatives.
“I’m aware of his capabilities and assets that he brings, and all that he’s got, but it’s not something I’ve pursued at the minute.”
Akinfenwa has also been linked with moves to Australia and the Far East since being freed by the Dons.
His departure from the south London club came after his penalty clinched their 2-0 League Two play-off final win against Plymouth.
United did not comment on the possibility of a move for Cook.
