The home game with Leigh RMI scheduled for this afternoon at Raydale Park has been called off following an 11.15am inspection. Heavy overnight frost rendered the pitch unplayable. United had moved the game from flood-damaged Brunton Park which is still undergoing heavy remedial work to try and get it ready for the FA Trophy tie versus Barnet on February 5th. Gretna supremo Brooks Mileson offered United the use of Raydale Park free of charge but the game was always going to be a one-off as Gretna's stadium does not come up to minimum Conference standards, which stipulates a capacity of 4,000. Conference officials allowed the game to go ahead to try and protect United from possible future fixture congestion. The game would have had a maximum attendance of 2,693 following the erection of a temporary stand. The Leigh match becomes the second home league fixture to be postponed this season. The club will be hopeful of playing it at Brunton Park at a later date. They are still to advise on the situation regarding tickets. They were sold at a specially reduced rate of £7 Adults £4 Concessions. Pictures from News & Star |
