Henderson joins a Carlisle attack that have failed to score since four minutes into the opening game of the season against York City on August 9 - a run of five league games and 536 minutes. Another blank against Rochdale tomorrow will set an unwanted new record for the Cumbrians. 29-year-old Henderson has been stuck in the reserves at Victoria Park and sees the switch to Brunton Park as a chance to resurrect his career. Caretaker boss Paul Simpson believes he could be the man to kick-start United's disastrous season. "Kevin has impressed me when I've seen him play and when I've played against him. He's a big powerful lad with a decent goal-scoring record. He's had a frustrating time at Hartlepool as he has been on the bench, but he has a good opportunity to show what he can do. It's good getting a new face in to try to breathe new life into the squad. It's a short term move at the moment as I'm not thinking long-term while things are still up in the air with my own situation," he said. Simpson knows Dale inside out as he managed them last season. The Dale are on a bit of a streak with a 2-1 away win at York last Saturday lifting them into fourth place. Simpson is not that bothered about the form of the opposition. "The fact that it is Rochdale means nothing else to me, apart from the fact it is our next game," he said. "I don't care who it is, whether it's Rochdale or Southend. We need to go out and put on a performance as it's been terrible for us so far." Picture from News & Star |
