Magennis: exit
United are set to take on Kidderminster tomorrow without right-sided midfielder Mark Magennis, who has left Brunton Park after talks over extending his monthly contract collapsed.

Magennis, freed by Coventry earlier this season, signed for the Cumbrians in October and became a regular in the side. His departure has come as a blow to manager Roddy Collins, but he has lined up Ryan Baldacchino to replace him for Saturday's trip to Aggborough.

The United boss has not given up hope of making another signing who will be eligible for next weekend's FA Cup home tie with Lincoln City. He said the player was with a Premiership club and had played in Europe. There has been speculation that this player could be 20-year-old Blackburn man Jonathan Douglas, who hails from Ireland.

Kidderminster, under their new manager Ian Britton, the former Chelsea midfielder, have made a very impressive start to the season, climbing to fourth place with a game in hand on the leaders. Their trip to Torquay last week was waterlogged off. They have lost only twice in sixteen matches, fewer defeats than any other side in the Third Division.

Britton claimed the manager of the month award for October, thanks to winning five games out of six. He is not worried by Carlisle's recent record against the Harriers, which has seen them take 10 points out of a possible 12 in league games and a fine 2-0 win at Aggborough in the FA Cup two years ago.

"Carlisle may be a bogey team for Harriers but not for me," he said. "We will see at quarter to five on Saturday. They have had a slow start and brought in three or four loan signings but they are starting to get better and will come here full of confidence on the back of a win last Saturday."

Britton isn't too bothered either about Kiddy's enforced inactivity last week.

"We've had a rest and it's allowed the injuries to clear up a bit so it's good in that respect. But we really want to keep playing games all the time as we're on such a good run. We have some big games coming up over November and fortunately a lot of them are at home," he said.

For Collins, the bad news about Magennis is balanced by the good with the return of sharpshooter Richie Foran. Foran made a brief substitute appearance last week in the 1-0 win over Oxford that was only Carlisle's second home success of the season. Foran is expected to start up front at Kiddy, most likely in place of John Sutton. Sutton, together with fellow loanees Craig Farrell and Leon Osman, have all agreed to extend their stays until Christmas which will provide a further boost for the boss.

Meanwhile, it looks like being the end of the road for midfield man Mick Galloway. Galloway is currently on loan at Conference side Hereford. Collins said this week he would never play for the Cumbrians again and the club would seek to negotiate an end to his contract, which runs until the end of the season. The midfielder has never seen eye to eye with Collins and during the summer upset fans when he urged them to back former owner Michael Knighton.
