Simmo: Waiting game
United boss Paul Simpson is waiting for news on the five players who are out of contract and have been awarded new one-year deals.

Peter Murphy, Brendan McGill, Matty Glennon, Paul Arnison and Tom Cowan have all to decide whether to stay at Brunton Park after being offered reduced wages. Murphy, McGill and Glennon had been on contracts awarded by ex-manager Roddy Collins.

Brian Shelley, Kevin Henderson, Carlos Roca, Craig Farrell and Chris Beech were all released at the end of the season. Henderson has since signed for non-league Gateshead on part-time terms after going into the bedroom-fitting business. Gateshead are in the Unibond League Premier Division. Shelley has been linked with Conference North outfit Barrow, where he could link up with ex-teammate Paul Raven.

Simpson revealed last week that he was in talks with an unnamed Conference forward but no signings have been confirmed to date.

Matty helps England XI to victory

United keeper Matty Glennon was part of the England National Game squad that won the semi-professional Home International title in Ireland last week. Glennon was between the sticks for the final match which ended in a 3-2 win for England over Scotland.

The England team were managed for the final time by Barnet boss Paul Fairclough, who steered his club side to the Conference title last season.
