The only obstacle standing in his way is agreement by creditors to accept the administrators' CVA proposals at a meeting next Friday (10 am) at Brunton Park. If this is rejected, the administrators say the club will be put into liquidation. The news that fans have been waiting for over three years to hear was broken today. Courtenay has bought the holding company, CUFC Holdings Ltd for an amount described as "substantially more than the debts of the club". "The administrators are happy, I'm very happy and Michael Knighton is happy enough to sign the paperwork. I have an irrevocable letter of credit - it is just down to the CVA going through next week. Roddy Collins, Johnny Cunningham and Tony Elliott will be back at work on Monday," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. Courtenay said some players released earlier in the summer would now be returning, but wouldn't reveal names. He also hopes to conclude deals with Trevor Molloy and Brian Shelley that were agreed before Collins was sacked in April. The Irish businessman revealed that supporters' trust CCUIST would be allowed to have at least one representative on the new board of directors which will be announced as soon as the takeover is completed. However there is no involvement at this stage for Brooks Mileson. There has been speculation that Mileson will be offered a seat in return for a stake in the club. A delighted Collins said he was targetting a total of seven players and would be getting down to work next week to build a squad for the new season which kicks off on August 10. The news will be welcomed by supporters of United who had voted 95% in a recent survey to boycott home games in the coming season. There is now a strong chance Brunton Park will sell out on the first day of the season when Hartlepool visit. Picture from News & Star |
