TRIALIST WALKER LEAVES CARLISLE UNITED

Trialist Nicky Walker has left Carlisle United

Walker, who left Boston United at the end of last season, played in United’s 3-0 win over Workington Reds and their 7-0 victory over Penrith earlier this month.

The former Rotherham United winger, Keith Curle confirmed on Saturday, has left Brunton Park after being offered the opportunity of a trial at League One club Bradford City – who the Blues lost 2-0 to at the Coral Windows Stadium this weekend.

“Nicky Walker came in and had a trial with us, and then halfway through the trial he was offered the opportiunity to come to Bradford and have a trial, which obviously we didn’t stand in the way of and he’s gone,” said Curle. “I don’t know at the minute how well he’s done on his trial period at Bradford.”

The United boss did say, though, that it was still possible that he could renew his interest in the 20-year-old, should his spell with the Bantams not lead to a permanent move.

“Until I find out exactly what his situation is with how he’s done on trial here, we won’t close the door on him,” he said.

Meanwhile, the two remaining trialists at the club, Kevin Osei and Joe Thompson, will get another chance to impress when Preston North End arrive at Brunton Park tomorrow night.

The pair were given cameos of just over 20 minutes each at Bradford on Saturday but, speaking after the defeat to City, Curle said a decision will be made on their futures after the midweek game against the Championship side.

“We’ll make a decision on the trialists after Tuesday’s game,” he said. “Kevin Osei has been travelling back and forward so he hasn’t been able to do full sessions. It was good to get him some time and it’s the same with Joe Thompson as well.

“I’ll try and have a longer look at both of those lads against Preston and I’ll give them an answer after that.”
