Northampton boss Colin Calderwood has signed out-of-contract Wycombe midfielder Joe Burnell. The 25-year-old ex-Bristol City man, who played under Cobblers boss John Gorman at Wycombe, agreeing on a two-year contract at Sixfields after leaving the Chairboys. Tranmere have snapped up ex-Barnsley winger Chris Shuker on a free transfer, Shuker leaving Oakwell after contractual problems with the Championship club, the 24-year old now moving to Prenton Park on a two-year deal.

Shropshire-born striker Andy Cooke is currently on trial with Shrewsbury Town, the 32-year-old on the lookout for a new club after being released by Bradford City at the end of last season. Ex-Blackpool centre-half Tony Butler has moved down to the South-West to link up with Nationwide Conference side Forest Green Rovers, the 33-year old joining fellow defenders Chris Giles from Crawley and Matthew McEntegart from Chippenham Town in joining the Nailsworth-based team.

Oldham's 31-year old Australian keeper Les Pogliacomi has undergone minor surgery on his damaged knee after picking the injury up in pre-season training. Stuart Tomlinson's proposed season-long loan move to Conference club Burton Albion has been delayed, the deal going on hold until the 21-year old glovesman recovers from a recently gained calf injury.
