Hartlepool midfielder Antony Sweeney spoke to the Northern Echo and the Gazette ahead of his side's League One match against Carlisle at Victoria Park tonight, Sweeney hoping for another three points after the 'Pools won 2-1 at home to Walsall at the weekend :

" We have won on Saturday and now it's important to back it up with another win as well on Tuesday. We've won games and then failed to follow it up. We have drawn, or more often than not we have lost.

" Six points from these two games can make the league table look a lot different even at this stage of the season. We need to take confidence from this, we know we aren't one of the worst teams in the league - I don't believe it anyway. Three points on Tuesday would go a long way to proving it and moving up the league table. It could be a massive boost for us.

"I'm pleased with how I've started the season. I think I'm getting in positions to score. I want more and I know there's more to come from me and the team. I'm enjoying my football again and I've been given a licence to get forward. Paul (Murray) is happy to sit in front of the back four - he's not getting any younger and he will tell you that himself.

"That gives us the licence to go forward and that's part of my game which I enjoy - for that I have to thank Chris (Turner) at the start of the season and now Mick (Wadsworth). I played right-back here for a while and at times it was frustrating.

" It's a specialist position and when you come up against a genuine winger you can get found out a bit. Then there's other games where you get on it and think it's working. Some teams find your weaknesses and it's hard when that happens.

" Spirit in the team and squad is good and that's important for us. You think back a few years ago when we had the likes of Mark Tinkler and Darrell Clarke, we had a massive togetherness then. It helped us to be successful and it showed in how well we did.

"We ended up in the play-offs without having the best team in the league and part of that is togetherness. If we can get that and keep it, and add to the squad as well with a bit of quality we can hopefully pick up points and won't be at the bottom end."
