Manager Chris Casper is hoping Bury can recreate last season's Carling Cup heroics when they entertain Carlisle United on Tuesday. The Gigg Lane outfit produced the shock of the first round when they dumped out Championship side Sunderland 12 months ago.
The 2-0 win, which led to Black Cats' chairman Niall Quinn sacking himself as manager after the game, set up a trip to Sheffield United's Bramall Lane. The Shakers eventually went out 1-0, but Casper knows victory against caretaker manager Greg Abbott's League One team will provide his side with a huge boost.
"It's a good opportunity to see where we are at as a team, and if we win then there is the chance to get one of the big teams in the next round."
Meanwhile Abbott himself said :
"Football is a ruthless business and we have got to move on, and get a result at Bury to get into the next round of the cup. Having a game so quickly is probably the best thing that could happen. It has come as a shock to the players, but they are very professional and they were excellent in training."
The referee for the match tonight is Darren Drysdale from Lincolnshire.
