Gavin MasseyWatford-loanee striker Gavin Massey spoke to BBC Radio Essex ahead of his side's League One game against Carlisle at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, the 20-year old first looking back on a 1-1 home draw against Huddersfield and a 0-0 stalemate at Stevenage for the U's in the last seven days :

“Obviously we have had two frustrating draws, both where we thought we could take points off the opposition, we are a bit disappointed but we just kick on now and I think the boys and everyone still believe that we can push on for the play-offs. I think a draw was frustrating at Stevenage because they had ten men and they are hard to break down anyway with eleven men, but with ten men knowing that they couldn’t attack frustrated us to the limit.

“They limited us to a lot of chances and the manager (John Ward) took a gamble and put on strikers hoping for it to pay off. But, it didn’t really pay off, we didn’t really create too many clearcut chances like we would normally do. But, it looks like we are going for it and we should be, the teams above us we are all capable of beating and as we have seen, we have played Sheffield United, Charlton and everyone and we more than matched them. So, why not? We can push for the play-offs.

“The media would start talking about us if we won on Saturday, I think everyone is just focused on the top six and how they are doing at the moment and no-one is even thinking about Colchester. But, I think we are going about our business nice and quietly and when we do push for it and when we do pick up these results then everyone is going to be surprised.

“The manager said to me that the boys are on a good run of games, so I just said to him that I am happy to be in the matchday squad being a part of it and everything, whether that is on the bench or starting I wasn’t too fussed. But, I know that when my opportunity does come I know I will be ready and I will take it. But, at the moment I will be patient and I am happy with that, the boys are doing well, we are unbeaten in ten or eleven games and it is all credit to them. I obviously don’t expect to just come straight in for a start, I have got to work for that opportunity and when it does come hopefully I will take it.”
