Orient captain Stephen Purches spoke to the Ilford Recorder ahead of his side's home game against Carlisle at the Matchroom Stadium tomorrow, Purches hoping that the O's can end a run of three home defeats in a row so far this season, one of which came after extra-time against Stoke City in the Carling Cup on Wednesday :

"All the sides we have played have started the season well, but none of them have carved us open. The next few league games are vital for us, because once we have played another three or four, I think we will have a good idea of just how the season will go for us. By then we should have a good idea of how things are going to go.

"There was a great atmosphere for the Charlton game last week, the best since I have been here. It was disappointing to score three goals, but not come away with maximum points. We had to come back twice and that shows there is character in the squad.

"Everyone has been chipping in with goals this season, and it's good to have a goal threat up front. It makes it a lot easier to win games. Of course, it's disappointing that we have been conceding goals. But most of them have been down to bad decisions and individual errors.

"At the moment all the mistakes we make seem to be punished and at least we know what the problems are. When we start making the right decisions, we can cut out some of the goals we have been conceding."

Meanwhile Orient boss Geraint Williams told his club's official website :

"We need to produce the same type of performance we did on Wednesday night. If we can play with the same sort of intensity, attitude and ability that we did against Stoke City, then there is no reason why we can't take all three points from Saturday's game.

"We've been working hard on our shape and I thought that showed on Wednesday. We were tough to break down and we need to reproduce that, as well as the same kind of endeavour and flair.

"The players needed to get the right rest and recovery in. They were in the ice baths after the game on Wednesday. Thursday was an easy day in the pool, with rubs to get the legs back together. Friday was about us getting tactically aware for the Carlisle game without doing anything too physical and the lads will be bursting to get back out there at 3pm tomorrow."

And O's midfielder JJ Melligan commented to the Waltham Forest Guardian :

"The gaffer (Williams) said that if we play like we did versus Stoke against Carlisle, we'll beat them. We've just got to be consistent now. Teams come here and shut us down, they play five in midfield, block things up, and don't let us play. They know if they don't do that we'll go straight through them. It's boring, basically."

In team news for the home side strikers James Scowcroft and Scott McGleish missed the Stoke tie with minor knocks but both are now available for tomorrow's match. Goalkeeper Jamie Jones should also be ready for action depsite having to be substituted early on Wednesday night with a hip injury. Definitely out though are midfielders Sean Thornton (knee) and Darryl Sydes (ankle).

The referee for tomorrow's match is Graham Horwood from Luton, and he will be assisted down the lines by Lee Collins from Woking in Surrey and Ian Cooper from Rochester in Kent. Meanwhile the fourth official is Steve Rubery from Ilford in Essex.
