Former United left-back Paul Boertien spoke to the Birmingham Mail about Walsall's game at Brunton Park tonight, Boertien first chatting about the promotion prospects of the Saddlers :

"At the moment we are quite a way off the play-offs. But if we can get on a good run we could still push towards them. It is going to be very hard but that is the kind of run we need to strive for. If we can get some consistency, which we haven't had all season, we can push towards the top six.

"With back-to-back wins at this stage of the season you can fly up this league. That has been shown by the teams that are up there now. Going back to Carlisle will be nice for me. It was the first club I was at and I look for their results all the time.

"It will be a tough game for us. They are a lot better than their position in the league suggests. They have some good players but we have to go there confident that we can beat them. I am surprised how disappointingly they have done considering they were in the play-offs last season.

"They got off to a good start then they had a big run in which we beat them and they just couldn't win. When you win a few you can climb the table but when you get on a losing run it is a sharp drop down there. They have picked up a bit but are still struggling for consistency. I am very surprised because I thought they would be up in the play-offs."

Meanwhile goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin, standing in for the absent Clayton Ince this evening, commented to his club's official website :

"I'll be delighted to be back out there again. It went well for me last time I filled in for Clayton and hopefully it will be the same again this evening. Any number two goalkeeper just wants to get a chance to play first-team football, so I'm just delighted. You have to be patient and I totally understand that.

"Clayton is our number one and we have a good relationship. He encourages me and I support him. It's something of a waiting game but when you get your opportunity, you just have to do as well as you can. For me personally, it's an opportunity to show the manager what I can do in the first-team. He's seen me train but this will be the first time he'll have seen me in action for our first-team.

"Carlisle will be a tough game but we'll go there in a good frame of mind. Watching from the sidelines on Saturday, I thought we should have picked up all three points against Hartlepool. We are playing some good football and fingers crossed, we can get maximum points tonight."
