Peter Clarke
Shrimpers defender Peter Clarke was one of five Southend men who spoke to the South Essex Echo about their side's match at Brunton Park against Carlisle tomorrow, Clarke first commenting on the one point the Shrimpers need to be assured of a play-off spot :

"We don't want it to be hanging over us, we want to get it sorted tomorrow. Going bowling with the few of the lads was a good laugh, even if a few of them took it a bit more seriously than others. It's a good way to ease the pressure and hopefully we will reap the rewards this weekend.

"It is going to be one of the hardest games we've had. They are well organised and a strong side too but we're 12 games unbeaten and there is no reason why we can't go there and get the reasult we need. Our confidence is sky high and we don't fear anyone so it's a game we're looking forward too, when we finally get there!"

While goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan commented :

"I think that if we went there and played for a point it would be suicidal. We can go there and win it if we play like we can because we're a good side now. I don't remember too much about my debut because it was a long time ago now but I do know the team is a million times better these days.

"We've done well to get back into the position we're in and the only frustrating thing is that if we had picked up more points at the start of the season or over Christmas it would be automatic promotion we were going for. But it's a tremendous run we're on and we want to keep it going so we can go into the play-offs still full of confidence."

And Shrimpers assistant manager Paul Brush said :

"We are approaching the game in the right way and are flying up but we're getting the coach back which will seem to last forever if we lose. The trip seems to go on forever at the best of times so we want to make sure we're have something to celebrate on the way back. The midweek results with Walsall losing to Bristol Rovers have given us a boost. But we want to make sure of our play-off place and not rely on anyone else doing us a favour."

While versatile defender Simon Francis commented :

"We know it's a very hard game but it's our biggest one of the season so far because we have the chance to make sure of our place in the play-offs. They will also be desperate for the points but we're so confident now. I think you saw that in the second half against Northampton last weekend. We played some great stuff and should definitely have won. But we take that into Saturday and will hopefully do better to get the result we need.

"It's much better flying up because it doesn't take so much out of your legs. It means we will have more energy on the day and hopefully that will make a difference. We're getting the coach back but that isn't as bad, especially if we're coming back home with a good result."

And former Barnet midfielder Nicky Bailey managed to stay on his feet long enough to say :

"We haven't been beaten for ages now and even our away form is good now too. Earlier on in the season that was a problem for us but it's going well at the moment and of course that can carry on at Carlisle. They are playing well and are a good team but we're in form and we will be looking to go and win the game there."
