Scott Voice
Tipton Town assistant manager Scott Voice (SV) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton (PN) and James Phillips (JP) before tomorrow's FA Cup first round clash at Brunton Park between his Baker-Joiner Midland Football Alliance Division One side and Carlisle, Tipton travelling up for the game earlier this evening :

PN

Are you on the bus at the moment?

SV

Yeah, yeah, we have just gone past Stoke so we are on our way up there now.

PN

Don't worry, still another 150 miles to go.

SV

Oh no, lucky enough we have got a decent coach, we have got SKY on, so the lads are comfortable on a great occasion for us.

PN

Excellent, how ready are the team for the game tomorrow?

SV

We are prepared, we are as prepared as we are going to be. We have had a couple of sessions this week, as you know we are part-time so the lads have been to work and then come and got on with their sessions, and we are just looking forward to it.

PN

What has it been like in the build-up to tomorrow's game this week? What has the mood been like around the place amongst the players?

SV

It has been great, it has been great. We weren't expecting to get anywhere near this far, so every round is a bonus. There should be about 600 or 700 fans travelling up with us, so we are going to make a day of it and have a good go at Carlisle tomorrow.

PN

Yeah, and you are staying in Carlisle tonight, or around Carlisle, what is the thinking behind that?

SV

It is just because of the journey, it is four and a half hours up there. We would have to get the lads up and ready at 7.30am with the traffic coming through Manchester and through the Midlands. So, the best thing to do for us we thought was get up there nice and early tonight, then go at it in the morning.

PN

In terms of this side itself, how much former league experience is there in your one to eleven tomorrow?

SV

There is none at all to be honest, there is no league experience in our team at all. But, what there is, there are a couple of lads who have played in the Conference but apart from that I think we are six or seven leagues below League One, so we just play to that standard. We have got young lads in our team who I think personally can step up to a good level. I am not sure whether they are ready to step up to League One, but they are ready to step up a level or two.

PN

And you certainly come into this game with a bit of form behind you this season?

SV

Yeah, we have lost one in the last 30 games with the end of last season. So, the lads are confident, we are very confident. Alright, the odds are massively against us but it is a one off game, you never know, eleven players versus eleven, you never know and we are going to give it our best shot.

PN

How much do you know about Carlisle United? Have you had a chance to watch them since the draw was made?

SV

We have had someone watch you at Bristol Rovers last weekend, but I haven't actually read the report yet. We haven't really concentrated too much on Carlisle, we have just concentrated on ourselves.

PN

So, how do you go about beating a League One side tomorrow? What is the approach? What is the mentality?

SV

The mentality is just to enjoy the day and give it everything, don't leave anything on the pitch, as long as the lads give 100%. We have just got to be as professional as possible and give it our best shot.

JP

As a fan of the FA Cup, as we all indeed are, what has been your best memory aside from getting this far with your team?

SV

With Tipton?

JP

Just your best memory of watching it as a fan perhaps of a team when you were growing up? What stands out to you? What can you compare with this?

SV

I tell you what does, not so much, the Ryan Giggs goal for Manchester United against Arsenal in the semi-final at Villa Park. That is a good one that stands out in my mind. Other than that personally, I am a Wolves fan so it is Wolves getting to the semi-final a few years ago when they played at Aston Villa against Arsenal, that is my own personal memory.

As a team as Tipton, we have only entered the competition for the first time three years ago because of the level we have been playing at. So, we have only been able to enter it three years ago. But, we just keep going, we have just got to keep going and enjoy it all, we are already enjoying it on the way up here so we are looking forward to it.

JP

And I guess as a Wolves fan it must have been a bit of a giant-killing for you beating Manchester City the other week as well?

SV

Yeah, yeah, it was great, we really enjoyed that, we were due, we were playing quite well, and to be honest I think they might get something against Manchester United tomorrow as well, but we'll see.

PN

Hand on heart, just back to tomorrow's tie, hand on heart, do you honestly think the team can cause a big, big FA Cup shock tomorrow?

SV

I wouldn't like to say, we will give it our best shot. But, realistically, full-time professionals are going to be fitter, they are going to be able to pass the ball a lot better. But, eleven versus eleven, a team who have lost one in 30, we are not holding out for much, we are just coming to enjoy the day and we are just going to give it our best shot, we are just going to have a go at you.

PN

And just finally, what will you and the manager John Hill be saying, the last thing you will be saying to the players just before they leave the dressing room tomorrow?

SV

Believe in yourselves, that is all we will say, believe in yourselves. It is eleven versus eleven, at the end of the day it is a one off occasion. More than likely Tipton might have to wait 30 or 40 or 50 years for anything to come along like this. So, the main thing is to not leave anything on the pitch, don't regret after what you don't do in those 90 minutes.
