Pacey Iron full-back Marcus Williams spoke to The Scunthorpe Telegraph about the permanent appointment, on Thursday, as boss at Glanford Park of caretaker manager and club physiotherapist Nigel Adkins. The 20-year old talking about the good team spirit within the camp and his own future with the League One promotion candidates :

"We needed a manager and Nigel has done very well. The lads like him and respect him. The team is playing good football, and I think we can do it (promotion). We will do well on the pitch if we respect him and do as he says. I think he will do a good job.

"(Andy Crosby and Ian Baraclough) are two of the oldest players at the club, and all the boys respect them. We have to make sure we don't mess about. Just because they are players we can't take advantage of them.

"There is a lot of talk at the minute, a lot of speculation, but there is nothing concrete. It is very pleasing and flattering and I am happy to hear about it. We are doing very well and I think we can get to Championship level, it is a great opportunity. But, as I have said before, if the opportunity comes up before the end of the season, I don't know if I could resist.

"We will just have to wait and see what happens, but it would be really good if I could get into the Championship with Scunthorpe. There is a very good set of lads, older and young, and the mixture is phenomenal really. We all work hard together.

"Basically I am going to keep doing what I am doing, playing my football and enjoying my football. I am just waiting for my time. I think I am playing the best football of my life now. It is just exciting to hear all the talk, but when it comes I am just going to hopefully take my chance."

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins is set to field an unchanged side for the trip up north, Williams himself returning to the starting line-up following an ankle injury for the midweek draw with Tranmere and coming through unscathed. That 1-1 result against Rovers seeing the Iron close the gap on League One leaders Nottingham Forest, who crashed to a 2-0 defeat at relegation strugglers Bournemouth, to five points.

The referee for today's match is Mike Pike from Barrow, and he will be assisted down the lines by Scott Duncan from Tyne and Wear and Iain Siddall from Lancashire, meanwhile the fourth official will be Chris Brumwell from Penrith.
