Glovers boss Terry Skiverton spoke to BBC Radio Somerset and his club's official website ahead of Town's League One match against Carlisle at Huish Park tomorrow, Skiverton hoping to build on Yeovil's 2-2 draw away to Colchester last weekend :
“Confidence is high, we had a great result at the weekend, Carlisle have been a side that we have struggled against in the past, but in recent years we’ve done quite well. We had a god run against them last year, but they have got some good players, they have got some ex-players of ours and they’ll know a lot about us. Greg Abbott has done a great job there with what he did with them last year and we need to make sure that we are showing, this is our first chance to show our supporters that commitment and that energy and that desire that I was talking about since the Bury game. So, it is a real good opportunity for us to go out there and really put on a show for our fans.
“It is a new season, new players, you look at Charlton, they are top of the league whereas last year they languished, similar with Sheffield Wednesday, so it is a new season, new team and we have got a new side as well and a new keeper so for us it is just making sure we gel in and we bed in. The positives for us are people like Gavin Massey that have come in and hit the ground running, Oli Johnson has an assist under his name already in one game, so there are good positives going forward. We have got to still make sure of what we have been working on, which is trying to keep clean sheets, trying to be defensively tighter and stingier. If we do that then we will win more games of football, so we are going to stick to the principles of what we used for the Colchester game and make sure that we are very combative and not too open.
“Andy Welsh has got great delivery from set-plays and one thing that I do know with Welshy is that he is a keen competitor and he would have relished coming back. So, it is unfortunate that he is injured for the supporters because he was a great player for us, a great lad and someone that I wished all the best when he went on because he did such a fantastic job for me, so it will be disappointing not to see him, but I am sure we will see him later on in the season when he is back fully fit. I know he has not started too many games there but I think once he does get in he will be a real asset to Carlisle United.
“Gavin Massey was someone that we knew about and bringing him in against Wycombe when he first came on he nearly scored, and he keeps getting into those areas. Kieran Agard came on on Saturday and hit the crossbar with about 10 or 15 seconds to go, so striking-wise we have got some great options and we are nice and strong in midfield now and the defence looked better on Saturday, and we need to make sure that we are just stronger in all of those little units. I am pleased with the amount of goals we are scoring. That is why we have got to keep concentrating on keeping those clean sheets because if we get back to that and being tight and get that aggressiveness at the back we know we will create chances and score.
"It is not rocket science, you know that if you shore up one end and you still have goals coming at the other end you will be OK. It just matters about the way that we get about the pitch, if we are closer to them and keep the ball down and get into the right areas then we will cause them problems. But, if we go and do what we did against Bury and resort to going that little bit longer and higher, that is not the way I want to play. We have spoken about it, Saturday was a lot better and hopefully we can keep improving for this weekend coming as well."
