Alan KnillScunthorpe boss Alan Knill spoke to BBC Radio Humberside and his club's official website after his side's 0-0 League One draw against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Knill happy with another clean sheet for the Iron :

"It wasn't the greatest game, but it was a fantastic effort from the players and another clean sheet and the opposition, they are around the play-offs and have been all season. I didn't think either team played to their potential but we're probably more happy than they are with a point. I can't really remember Sam Slocombe having to make too many saves, but we coped well. They pressed a lot from crosses and set-plays but we coped well with it.

"So, delighted really to take the point and also to get to 50 points. Getting to that mark is huge because if I am honest, in November probably no-one saw us getting to 50 points, so a great effort in the second half of the season with the team coming together and players sacrificing themselves for the team, and now it puts us in a position to try to get as many points as possible.

"I thought it was a poor game though, I have got to say that some of the refereeing didn't help, it was stop, stop all the time. I didn't think we played particularly well, we moved it around and obviously had to change the team again. (Conor) McAleny took a knock on Saturday and woke up on Sunday with pain in his knee, but the good thing is he has had a scan at Everton and it is not too bad. He's been great since he joined us, he's a top player and just gives us another option.

"Damien (Mozika) also obviously had taken a knock on his ankle and he wasn't ready as it was too sore for him to play but we are hopeful that both will be back for the following Saturday. So, team selection was pretty simple really, we didn't have much choice, it is a straight choice for us, we had Damo missing so Togs (Sam Togwell) goes in for the same sort of job, sits there and competes."

"We didn't have Michael O'Connor either because he is not fit, he has got a groin problem and he is just not fit. Connor Jennings too has only trained a week but we were light on the bench and needs must at the moment. Ideally you want him to play some reserve team games and get some minutes in those and he will do on Wednesday at Gateshead.

"Then at the top the only striker we really had fit was Jordan (Robertson), and with Duff (Mark Duffy) not being matchfit, he has missed three weeks, so it was pretty easy to pick that team. But, fortunately it worked for us, we got a point that we needed, we would have liked to have taken all three and had some opportunities in the second-half to do that towards the end on the counter. But, we just lacked that little bit today.

"But, I had to take Parky (Jon Parkin) off as well because he has just felt his hamstring again, but the good thing is that we are not playing on Tuesday, we play next Saturday, although it is Monday today isn't it! So, we are hopeful that he is going to be OK, he just felt it wasn't as if it went, he just felt it go a little bit tight so we took him off as a precaution.

"It was tight but, to be honest, I think it helped us a little bit. Jordan Robertson and Jon Parkin are similar players but it allowed us to utilise Andy Barcham down the middle and use his pace. When you've got a fit Jon Parkin it's a big bonus for us. At the moment though he keeps feeling his hamstring so it's a little bit of a worry."

"I am not sure if we are safe now but it is going to be difficult to catch us, but you never know in football. So, the important thing is that we are ten unbeaten, we need to go eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen before the end of the season and really finish the season as strongly as we possibly can and get as many points as we possibly can, and hopefully start next season the way we have finished this one.

"Earlier in the season Carlisle were the best team we had played. Our form in the second half of the season would put us sixth or seventh I think, so a great effort from the players, from everybody, the whole squad and it is exactly what you need. We've been really good away from home this season, but the turnaround in recent times though has come from the fact we've had something to build from.

"I want to play like Carlisle, I want mobility and I want pace and passing and I think we are going to get there. But, the good thing is that we have got a team that you saw at the end when we came under pressure put in unbelievable blocks and unbelievable clearances, and without that the passing and the counter-attacking goes out of the window, you have to have the ugly stuff first and then we have got some players that can play.

"If you are in a relegation fight like we were, even though I have to say like we still are, you have to fight and it starts really at the back. We have stopped conceding goals, look solid, looked comfortable throughout most of the game and then we have got something to build from, and we have done that really well. We have given the supporters that travel something to shout about and now we are starting to do that at home as well.

"But, we have competed against all the teams and to be honest I don't expect us not to, whenever the team goes on the pitch I think we can win. We just haven't done enough overall with 20 draws but we are getting there and with the next four games we can continue it, I don't want to be beaten before the end of the season, irrelevant of who we are playing because I think this team and the squad can compete against anybody."
