Andy Hall - Radio Cumbria Interview

United media officer and first team kitman Andy Hall spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips ahead of Carlisle's League One game away to Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium, Hall first talking about the tactical formation that the Saints started the game with :

" You look at Southampton's 4-5-1 and they can actually interchange, and you have got some really dangerous players there. (Adam) Lallana, (Michail) Antonio, (Rickie) Lambert, (N'Diaye) Papa Waigo, you could go on and on. It is a quality team, a quality stadium and a really quality set-up down here at St. Mary's.

" It is nice to see Jason Price coming through training, so he has got himself back onto the bench. We have got Graham Kavanagh on there, David Raven as well, so there are options for Greg Abbott if things aren't quite going our way.

" But he has opted for the 4-4-2 today, Bridgey (Marc Bridge-Wilkinson) out on the right-hand side. We are going to have Dobes (Scott Dobie) and Gary Madine upfront, it will be interesting to see how Gary Madine does with a striker beside him. He has been having to work hard on his own in the last couple of games so that will be interesting.

" The first 15 minutes or so at Wembley I think man for man we were matching them. I think the disappointing thing was that we didn't really trouble them after they got that first goal and they just pushed on from there. "

" We want to cause them more problems today, I think Greg (Abbott) is looking at the fact that Madine has been very strong since he came back from Coventry, he can do a job up there. But to have somebody beside him, that should be an interesting thing to see.

" It is going to come down to the midfielders again isn't it because there is so much movement around this Saints side. If you give them that freedom they are going to come at us, we saw that first hand just a month ago.

" So if we can work hard in the midfield, close the gaps, get people like Bridgey and Ben Marshall on the ball out wide or Bridgey is going to come inside a little bit as well. Then perhaps we will put up a little more of a fight than we did at Wembley.

" I think that the something play to for is not just the pride to regain the pride, it is the fact that we want to finish the season properly. We have said that for weeks now, and you can actually level the accusation that we haven't been doing that. "

" So it is time to get that bit right because the fans deserve it, there is a nice little healthy blue following over in the corner. They deserve it as much as the people who are listening right now, because that is what we have been saying we are going to do, so let's get on and do it.

" The reaction to Greg's comments earlier in the week from the club have been good. I think Greg is very, very aware that we need to connect more with the fans and that is why there was a bit of a club decision this week that we have got to do that.

" It is no good us talking about it all the time, the fact of the matter is that we have got to get out there and do that. Because without the fans then we are absolutely nothing. Everybody keeps telling the fans that we are working hard but we don't really give any clear evidence of that.

" So, we are going to address that, Greg wanted to address that in his own way by answering the criticism. I think it has caused a very healthy debate that he wanted it to, but people are also looking at it in a more constructive way, which is what we have always asked for. "

" Please do criticise us, whether it is formations, tactics, whatever it is, come and out and criticise us and let us in a way that we can answer, rather than in a vitriolic way. Certainly that was Greg's idea with what he did, I think we mentioned at the end of our press conference that we are looking in the summer to start up roadshows.

" Then in conjunction with yourselves, if you guys are going to be on board, would be to do forums as well. The two things wouldn't be the same, the roadshow is more of a personal thing, the forums broadcast on the radio.

" So that we are getting out not just on the airwaves but personally face to face, this is the criticism, Andy, why are you doing this with the programme? This is why, do you know what, we are happy with that and we can all move on knowing what it is that the club is doing.

" There are just so many things that we can do that we have talked about doing, well maybe now is the time for us to address it and really start to move forward relationship-wise. "
