United media officer and first team kitman Andy Hall (AH) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) ahead of Carlisle's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final first leg tie at home to Huddersfield, Hall first talking about a change in the Blues midfield this evening :

JP

Paul Thirlwell hasn't quite made the cut due to a minor injury?

AH

Yeah, it is a bit of a tight calf, you will have seen him come off the pitch on Saturday, which he would never have done in a month of Sundays if he had the choice. But, it was starting to tighten up on him then, we thought he would be ready for tonight because it is not a major injury at all. But, rather than risk it and make it any worse we have, well, I say we have, the manager (Greg Abbott) has made the decision to rest him again tonight.

JP

An opportunity for Liam Noble, do you have it from the manager exactly how that will see Carlisle United lining up?

AH

I haven't, I haven't seen the training session, and that is a genuine one as well. I am guessing it will be the diamond, I think Liam will slot in and do the job that Thir did, he is a good holding tackler is Liam. I think he adds a bit more, we saw that on Saturday when he came on, he gets forward a bit as well, he likes to have a pop, so we might see something a little bit different in that way.

JP

In terms of this competition of course, Graham Kavanagh saying after the victory over Bristol Rovers at the weekend how the club feel that they have got unfinished business with this competition in the very short-term after last season's Wembley debarcle?

AH

You mentioned the 'W' word, yeah, the weekend was fantastic, the experience was fantastic, the fifth time the club has got there. We are aiming to do it a sixth time, everybody looks back on the actual 90 minutes of the game with a little bit of disappointment, well more than a little bit if we are honest.

It would be lovely to get back there and put that right because there were a lot of players there that day who are still here now who feel that they let themselves down and they let the fans down. So, it would be great to get back there and put on a show.

JP

And what have they been like? I know you have not seen the immediate training session before this match, but what have they been like here after that fine victory at the weekend?

AH

Brilliant, absolutely fantastic, there is a lot of confidence in that squad anyway, but like Greg said, I think it was last week, the longer you go without picking up the next win the harder it becomes to pick it up. That is really true, it is true for any team, I don't think with the young team that the confidence is much of a factor but things do start to get into your head don't they. So, the lads have managed to banish that with what was a fantastic second-half performance.

JP

He (Abbott) did concede actually for the first time this season Greg after the Torquay defeat that confidence had dropped a little bit. To come back like that, funny match as well against Bristol Rovers, because I say it was a fine victory, in the first-half it really could have gone either way, but as soon as they got that goal they just seemed to come to life?

AH

It seems to be the way doesn't it this season, if we can get in front then we are very hard to deal with. It is something that maybe that is part of the young side that is in them that they need to get over the heads down thing if you do go behind. But, again, having said that, January 1st when we played this lot we were two down and we pulled it back. So, who knows? It is Huddersfield, it is a knockout competition over two legs, anything can happen.

JP

And whenever I see these ties, I mean I am a lad who has grown up watching the Champions League in Europe and whenever you are at home first you always think you need a two goal margin to take away from home.

But, with this being the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, it is a different one isn't it, you kind of feel, I feel, I will ask you your opinion in a second but I feel that if Carlisle can not be behind, if they can go there with something to fight for to the Galpharm then they have got a good chance still of getting through, what is your view on that?

AH

In my mind it is a different mindset to a league game because it is a knockout competition. So, it doesn't matter where you play, if you are drawn away in a cup competition you have got just as much chance because both teams go for it, and I think generally with a different mindset. I don't know why that is, it just seems to happen and it will be the same when we go to the Galpharm if we have got a 4-0 lead. They will still go out there thinking they can turn it around because that is what can happen.
