New permanent Carlisle signing Michael Bridges spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria yesterday afternoon as he gave his thoughts on the Rochdale victory :

" It was a hell of a battle out there, They’ve come here and they’ve made it hard for us and I don’t think the pitch did anyone any justice either. It was frozen yesterday and it thawed out today and has been a bit of a quagmire. We got there in the end though and we’ve come out with a hell of a result.

" The gaffer (Paul Simpson) was asking us at half-time if there were any characters in the dressing-room and we needed to show a bit of it. He said it might be a bit of hard graft from somebody or a bit of skill but it doesn’t matter as long as we get a result and the lads came through and we showed character.

" It was one of those days for me. Simon Hackney did fantastic down the left, he terrorised them all day long. At one point he put in a cross and the lad just missed the header and I kind of switched off and my touch was a hell of a stinker as they say. Luckily though I was able to redeem myself and get the winner.

" It seemed to take an age for my goal to in. It was to do with the bobbles, I was panicking a bit. I went round the keeper and it just took a little bobble to take it off so I had to steady myself and luckily I put it in the back of the net, so it’s a hell of a result.

" Maybe I was trying a little bit too hard but that’s my game, I want to play football and get it down. Like Dennis (Booth) has said though, on this pitch you’ve got to learn when to turn and so I’m learning. All I can say is that the lads have come away with a hell of a result and we’ve got to take that onto the 2nd of January against Grimsby.

" I’ve come here and I’m delighted to have signed. The gaffer has given me five starts in games and I’ve got myself three goals, he’s given me a chance to play again and that’s what I’ve needed – a run of games. I’m delighted and I knew I was in Paul Simpson’s plans, so he’s given me a go and I’m happy if he’s here and the lads are here then I’m happy to sign here and I’m delighted.

" Grimsby is only 48 hours away but that’s what you’ve got do over the Christmas period. We’re lucky in one sense that the game at Boston had been called off, although a lot of fans had travelled it gives us an extra day to recover. Now we’ve got to go and show that the days off have been of use and we’ve got to go and get a result down there now.

" We’ve got to go and get a result down there and keep ourselves in contention at the top. The top teams are all winning and you’ve got to stay in the hunting pack, long may it continue. "
