Addicks boss Chris Powell
Charlton manager Chris Powell spoke to his club's official website after his side's 3-1 League One defeat at home to Carlisle, Powell saying that his players needed to use a bit of nous in the game :

"After a decent start, we didn't perform to our capabilities. We've conceded poor goals at vital times. Sometimes a bit of football nous in games like tonight is needed. The position we're in, you'd feel we'd be quite buoyant in our outlook, but when they got the second goal, we didn't have the confidence to push on.

"We need to be brave now - to stick together and be the team I know we can be. That will take a bit of talking and roll on Saturday because the only way to arrest it is on the pitch. I was always realistic to know that after winning all those games we'd lose some, and that has happened. It's a tough time as the longer it goes on it will ebb away at confidence. It's vital now we keep calm and are willing to do what it takes to arrest the slide.

"I've lost out on some players, but without a doubt we need a shake-up. We've been unfortunate with some injuries and Pawel Abbott expressed a desire to go back to Poland. We lost Joe Anyinsah in training on Monday as well. I'm not the first manager it's happened to, but without a doubt I'll do my best to get a player to come in and give everyone a lift.

"Our numbers are low. We've got players in the treatment room and we were light in numbers anyway. I'll do my utmost to make sure we can get a player or two in by Saturday. I'm only allowed two more loans, but Matt Fry's loan is up later this month so whether we push that on, we'll have to wait and see.

"It's not a case of a knee-jerk reaction. But we need a shot in the arm and we need to respond to what's happened to us in the last four games, and we need that to happen on Saturday. It's rare you can take positives in a game you've lost, but young Carl Jenkinson has done well again. He's definitely one for the future. But we've lost another football match and we move on."
