Charlton boss Chris Powell spoke to BBC Radio London 94.9 and his club's official website after his side's 4-0 home win over Carlisle at the Valley, Powell very pleased with three points after the Addicks lost their 12 match unbeaten league run at Stevenage last Saturday:
"I am ecstatic because we have responded in great fashion from last week, I think everyone, players and me and the supporters and all my staff were hurt by losing our unbeaten run because we wanted to carry it on, and we had one or two chances to get at least a point but it wasn't to be. So, you move on and that is exactly what we have done this week, we have trained really well and I could sense the boys were really focused on today's game, and obviously three games in a week and we have started it off in great fashion.
"I mean the first 45 minutes eleven v eleven, we scored three goals and we could have got more, so I am really pleased that we have run out 4-0 winners, clean sheet, I really wanted that clean sheet as well, and in the end we deserved it really because we've recently had two deflected goals and two penalties against us and I was thinking 'here we go again with another penalty'. But, three points, we have bounced back and I would say that is our best performance of the season, I mean Sheffield United away takes some beating and our second 45 at MK Dons was good.
"But, I think really to show our belief and our focus and how emphatic and clinical we were in the first period, I would say that is great, and what I like is when it is at home as well. Because, we haven't lost at home but we have had a few draws and I suppose people were always asking questions, can we get the home wins? But, I think it is a good place to play, I would say that but I am really pleased that 4-0 is a good result against a Carlisle side who have been particularly good away from home as well.
"But I've got to say from Monday, after showing them the video and the good and bad points which I always do when we have a debrief, I sensed that everyone had moved on and were looking forward to Carlisle at home and Wycombe and Hartlepool away. Every player was on their game and even when Carlisle had one or two opportunities we still had people throwing their bodies in the way."
"Yann (Kermorgant) has obviously made a difference in the first two goals he got this season because they were off the bench, but we have worked hard with them and all the forwards with just our link-up play and trying to work together. I mean the first goal was an emphatic header by Yann and he is very good in the air and I am pleased he has got his first home goal, or goals I should say, and Danny Hollands as well.
"But, I mean Yann and Brad (Bradley Wright-Phillips) are slowly getting that understanding and I don't want to forget people like Paul Hayes who links well with Brad you know. Because, I want us to pass it a bit more, I have been saying that we have been trying to hit Yann a bit too much so I think we got the mix right today because he is good on the ground as well. We have got people that put good crosses in like Danny Green and Johnnie Jackson and our two full-backs (Chris Solly and Rhoys Wiggins) and it really worked today so I am ever so pleased.
"I like us on the road, we have been good on the road, and what I have got to say as well is we go to Wycombe and go to Hartlepool but I think today showed the strength of our squad. Andy Hughes came in, Dale Stephens has become a father overnight and he is up north, so I have always said that is more important than any football match is family and welcoming his son and daughter into the world. So, Andy Hughes comes in and does a real disciplined and professional thorough job and he has played his part.
"There were great performances by everyone, all 14 of them today. I think if you were in a positiion like we were today you can give some guys some minutes and it is not always easy, you try to give them minutes in games but I am ever so pleased that Jason Euell, Paul Hayes and Scott Wagstaff can come on and play their part and enjoy the day. It was a really good day for us so I am ever so pleased that we can look ahead now to Wycombe and to Hartlepool on the back of a good victory and try to get our away form going again after losing at Stevenage."
